Amazingly, this year marks 50 years of ‘twinning’ with the town of Hem in France.

To celebrate this milestone Mossley Town Council and the Mossley Twinning Committee began the ambitious undertaking of producing a series of creative responses and projects under the theme of twinning, alongside organising a variety of events.

Friday 23rd - Sunday 25th September 2022 marks the 50th Anniversary of the Twinning of Mossley and Hem. 2022 is not just a Platinum Jubilee Celebration for Her Majesty, it is also a Golden Jubilee Celebration for Mossley!

Town Twinning was established as part of the post war drive to bring greater understanding between communities in Europe. There are hundreds of towns now twinned, many with two or more partners. But today, many people are unaware of twinning or feel that it isn’t really a significant part of their lives. Now more than ever, bringing greater understanding between communities seems incredibly important.

The project named Jubilee Jumelage (jumelage means twinning in French) boasts projects from artists based in Mossley, collaborating with other artists based in Hem.

Mossley artists involved are; Mossley Writers, GW Theatre, Born and Bred Dance Theatre, ReCreate Mossley, Ushiku Crisafulli, Diana Terry, Judith Alsop Miles and Odyssey Studios. Their projects involve dance, music, drama, hip hop, painting, mono-printing, writing, poetry and film.

There are many ways in which you can get involved with the twinning celebration. You can take part in free arts workshops or enjoy one of the many events on offer. A full timetable of workshops and events can be found on Facebook @JubileeJumelage and on www.intameside.co.uk

During the main weekend in September we will have delegates from Hem visiting Mossley, staying with local hosts and attending events that showcase our marvellous town, so why not come out and join us!
